But for the rest of us "poor people", I say staying poor is the way to go.
On the whole, I think you're right. While it's true that power traders can make millions in a day, that's because they have millions upon millions to play with. They had to make their investment capital the old fashioned way before being able to power trade huge sums. Ultimately it's more time than I'm willing to spend on this enterprise. IRL is just so much more important IMO.

A: owned minis/unconditionals/q7s/q8s pre-dupe, or duped themselves
Q: How did most of the current power traders make their bankroll?

The majority of the power traders didn't invest a lot of time playing the game specifically for profit. They were lucky/sensible enough to own the right things when the market shifted, and then capitalized on it. Inflation just makes the margins wider if you've already got the cash to play in those markets, and asset appreciation is strong in an inflationary market.

It's nice that there are still rare items in this game. That's really my only thought on this...

Don't really care. Ambraces aren't some one off mini you can't get any more. You don't like the prices? Go get your own. DOA's right there waiting for you. Hell, you can even get gems in nm if you don't like hm.

Well back when GW was very young and they did that reset on ectos to 100gp each many got stacks of them and thus became very wealthy as the game progressed. What suked is when they were 17plat each and there was no way to get gold for them without buying tons of accounts. Had to trade them for supposedly high end rare skins and inserts that Anet eventually killed in value as well except for the very few things left in Prophecies still rare or out of print and then the torment and destroyer gear and mini pets. I find collecting rares boring now as there just aren't as many as there used to be and having stacks and stacks of ectos is becoming meaningless.

There's that, too. But it wasn't exactly easy to get stacks of them. The trader runs out fast and resupplies slowly. Lot of clicking. I think I picked up a couple of runes that day, but I came online way too late to make any profit on ectos. It was just as fast to farm them for free with Prot Bond by that point.

If you have stacks and stacks of ectos, you've been losing value very quickly until the last couple of weeks. But even that price bounce didn't even begin to cover the devaluation of the ecto over the last year or so.

XD Same...except for the clone wars part, that's cooler imo.

I do see the OP's point though and agree. If you want one, just gonna have to be patient and avoid the greedy sellers or wait for a while until things settle down again.

Prices have been steady at 45e all weekend, so maybe demand is slowing or we have an over supply. Will have to wait and see if the prices continue to go lower. At that price if u bought all gems, profit is only about 20-30k. Also farmers are asking more for gems now.
